PICNIC ON NEW YEAR'S DAY.
The New Year's Day, Picnic Committee held a meeting on Tuesday night. There was a large attendance and matters in connection with the picnic were reported to be well in hand. Given a fine day, the outing should be a good one. Sul>committees were formed to attend to the refreshment booth, children's events, side show's, adult events,and procession. . ji By request of his Worship • the Mayor, Mr James Richardson was appointed to- judge the babies. Donations were received from Mr C. C. Franks and Mr C. Young, the latter giving a valuable prize for the cycle road race. ' ' < ' It is- intended that a procession, headed bv the Band, will leave the Post Office at 11 a.m., proceeding to the reserve. , Mr Freeman has this matter in hand, and it is -anticipated that decorated cars and lorries and fancy costumes will cause a sensation. " Mr Young, who has charge of tne side shows, declares that he will put the Dunedin Exhibition-in the shade. . ; " ■ The refreshment stall is m chargeof Mr Quarrie, who has a strong committee, and tea, sandwiches cakes, lollies, fruit, pies, etc., will be available on the ground. Mr Hyde v said he was pleased with the enthusiasm with which the picnic was being taken up and glad to see so many present. He .felt sure the event Would be successful and that their efforts would be appreciated by the public of Shannon and district.
