SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Owing to the usual fortnightly meeting falling qn Christinas week, the meeting was held a week earlier, taking,place on Tuesday evening last. The Town Clerk reported that the Librarian had drawn his attention io the carelessness of persons smoking in the reading room. The ends of papers had been burnt and cigarette butts left lying on the taibles It was resolved that a notice be placed in the room prohibiting smoking. Mr, 3. Swindlehurst was. appointed dog tax collector for the ensuing year. The Town Clerk, was granted 14 days' holiday. r Cr. Downes informed the Qoiuiticil that lately some young fellows have been in the habit of racing on motor cycles in 'Blullaoce Street and he moved that the police be notified an<l asked to take action.—Carried. Arising from the above Cr. Roberts pointed out that the. speed notices at the entrance to the Borough were not sufficiently conspicuous, particularly the- one entering the Borough when coming from Levin, which was turned in the wrong direction, it being quite impossible to notice it.—On the motion of Cr. Richardson it was resolved that notices be erected on the main north and south roads, with lettering that can Ibe easily seen, pointing out that the speed through the Borough is not to exceed fifteen miles an hour. \ The accounts ..were then passed for payment, #
