HOROWHENUA POWER BOARD.
NOVEMBER MEETING. ■ The monthly meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board took place on Tuesday. Those present were: Messrs : Monk (chairman),- Brown, -Barber, Kilsby, Gunning, "McKay, Matheson, j the secretary (Mr P. W. Goldsmith), ! and the Engineer (Mr J. A. Smith). j Apology was received from Mr Ross. The Munawatu County Council wrote in connection with one of the j Power Board's poles which stood at j the corner of Purcell Street and j YvOiirokmo Road, Foxton, asking that I the pole be removed from its (present j position in order to allow improve- | ments to'be made. | The Engineer (Mr J. A. Smith) re--1 marked that the pole was certainly fairly close to the road. Cr. Barber thought the pole in question was in a rather dangerous ipoeilion, but Mr Ross, who owned the property on the corner, had intimated that he might be prepared to give a certain amount of ground in order to obviate the" danger of the sharp turn. The speaker said he thought the road should be iput out instead of having the pole moved—a wider curve would obviate the trouble. Perhaps, the Engineer could meet the County Engineer and, say, Mr Trueman, on ihe spot to discuss the question. The matter was finally left in the hands of "Cr. Barber and the Engineer, giving, them power to deal with the situation. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Engineer, Mr J. A. Contracts and Supplies—Delay in the delivery of bare copper wire and poles has been occasioned on account of the strike, and this, has delayed the line construction at Manakau North and Keri' v Keri Roads, and an extension at Kuku. The Engineer, replying to a question in regard to the purchasing and installation of 20 K.W. transformers in place of transformers of lower output, said that these transformers were necessary not only because of the increasing load, but on account of the increasing number of lines. The 10 K.W. transformers were' rather small where ranges w.erc being used and often necessitated the installation of two. of these, whereas the larger transformers were found to be 1 more satisfactory for range purposes.
