COLOUR COMPETITION. On Wednesday aiternoon sides representing" Green and Gold selected from all the members by the Selection Committee, tried conclusions and after some keenly contested games the Golds proved the victors by 25 games to 22. ' CUP CANDIDATES. (By Critic.) I Bartholomew.—A fair player but - v would improve with a little more practice and hard play.. Hennessey.—The making of a good player. Practice is all that is necessary. • Hunt.—A' promising young player. Has a'good service but more accuracy is. required. Must develop a backhand drive. Bovis.—Fair, but should practice in volleying. Hie has a good service. Walden.VA keen player but must have hard play. Service fair, but could be improved on with a little more care. Quarrie.—Takes tilings too easy, must play harder and practice a back hand stroke. Appears to be out of form. Picard.—A steady all round player. Advised to drop the reverse service and take on the cannon or bullets. Placing necessary with base line drives. Mrs Morgan.—A good hard player. Excels in matches. Harder practice necessary and more care should be taken in back [hand strokes. Mrs Cronquest.—A steady player, but would do better if the forehand drive was a little harder. Miss M. Brown.— A promising star and is coining on well. Has a good service, but must develop a forehand drive and cease chopping.
Mrs Bovis.—Has a. good service, but her back hand is weak, Her forehand drive is very good. More wrist work is necessary and she should strike the ball drop a little lower. ' Mrs Whibley.—A steady player, but she should play harder. - Should use mute speed in the forehand drive. Miss Williams.—With plenty of practice of hard play she must improve. Advised to drive a little harder.'
Mrs Laurvig.—A fair player and takes very keen interest in her play, but "Critic" /does not like chop strokes. Her back hand is weak. Mrs Doidge— A hard player, but more practice is necessary and more care laken in service. TENNIS TEA ARRANGEMENTS. - At a, meeting of ladies of the Shannon Tennis Club to arrange details for the afternoon tea, some expressed a wish to be allotted a day, to provide the whole of the provisions, and be free for the rest of the season. Others preferred to bring a small plate each Wednesday afternoon as they came. It was agreed-to meet the wishes of all, as far as possible, and Mrs Laurvig was appointed- 1o arrange accordingly. The following was agreed upon:—Nov. 25th, Dec. 2nd, 9th, and 16th will be filled in by ladies who wish to provide the whole, and those- who wish to bring a plate are reminded that thev will start from Wednesday, December 23, and continue on until Ihe end of the season. Three ladies will be appointed for each dav (dates will be posted in pavilion) to take charge of dispensing tea, etc., and should any group strike
a wet day their name will again appear at the end ©if the list.. Next Wednesday, November 25th, Mrs Morgan and Miss-Gordon arc providing and dispensing afternoon tea. On Saturday milk, tea, and sugar will he found, ladies to make their own, arrangements about eatables.
