The appetite of a bull for cabbages was questioned in a case heard at Auckland. Frank Edward Daly, civil, servant, claimed from William Pickens, farmer, damages amounting to £157 10s, including £SO general damages, alleging that defendant’s bull had strayed into his property at Mt. Albert and damaged vegetables, fruit trees and a fence. Among the vegetables stated to have been .destroyed were 2200 cabbages and 150,000 omon plants. In non-suiting the plaintiff Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., said the weight of evidence was against plaintiff, wlio had to bear the burden of proving that defendant’s bull did the damage. There seemed to be some doubt regarding the capacity of a bull to swallow 2SOO cabbages, and it appeared that other cattle wandering about the garden had shared them.
