A punt which had been quite unsatisfactory had been put in at a cost to date of about £2OOO. It would cost between £4OOO and £SOOO to replajx the spans which had been washed away. . . , 1V Mr J. Linklater (Manawatu) explained that the committee thought the controlling local body (the Hoiowhenua County Council) should mo,vc for a commission to allocate the contributions on the cost of a new bridge. He understood this was going to he asked for. There had been some difference as to whether a new bridge should be -built or w-hethcr the two spans should be replaced. The punt was cumbersome and not serviceable to the settlers. As an explanation, Mr J. M.
