FOR DEFILER OF CHILDREN. HAMILTON, Sept. 3. John Weyreuter, convicted on 15 charges of indecent assault, carnai and rape of girls aged 7 to 13, was sentenced by Mr Jaistice ilerdm.au to two years on each oi five charges, these to be cumulative, and one year on each of ten charges concurrent with the cumulative sentences, making ten years to serve. His Honour characterised the offences as the most revolting that had ever come under his notice, "it may be," he added, 'that 1 should order a flogging also, hut in view of a recent decision of the Court of Appeal, in a case where I considered a flogging desirable, 1 refrain." Prisoner had only been in the Dominion for three years and nothing was known of his antecedents. The judge commented that if he was a type of the immigrants coming to the Dominion the outlook was not bright.

William Sidney Ferguson was sentenced to twq years probation for .obtaining a quantity of coal by false pretences.
