GLORIOUS GAME AT CHRISTCHURCH. CANTERBURY FORWARDS TOO GOOD. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. This afternoon at Lancaster Park a Canterbury provincial team defeated N.S.W. by 22 points to 13. The conditions were ideal and about 7000 people were present. The match was a glorious one to watch, being fast and open from whistle to whistle, with the advantage slightly in favour of Canterbury. The visitors led at half-time by 10 to* S but in the second spell the Canterbury men got well into their stride, especially the forwards who lacked life before the interval, and brilliant rugby was served up to keep the crowd in a state of tense excitement.
The local men's win was due to the forwards who gave their opponents no peace. The visiting rearguard was better. The bright particular stars of the back divisions were Lawton - (N.S. Wales) and 'McGregor (Canterbury) while Scrimshaw (Canterbury) was the best forward on the gound. Burrows (Canterbury) had to go to hospital at half-time suffering from concussion and his place was taken by JJennehy. For Canterbury McGregor (two), Carleton, lion. Stewart and Robilliard scored tries, two of which Carleton converted, and McGregor kicked a goal Li'om a mark. Reid, Morrisscy, and Grossman scored for N.S. Walea, Luwton converting two.
(Thre e of Canterbury's try getters were 1924 All Blacks, Stewart being the young Timaruvian.)
