was important it should be kept in good order. Mr Burns said he had been informed that the Croquet Club were prepared to pay £ls per season for the green and that they would attend to the refreshments the same as last season. Mr Gunning withdrew his notice of motion, and on the motion of Mr White, seconded by Mr Murray, it was decided “That members’ subscriptions be £2 10s, irrespective of new or country members.” The ’President and Mr Butt were appointed to meet the ladies of the Croquet Club to discuss the question of tin* green. GENERAL. A notice of motion by Mr J. V. Burns that the Glub be incorporated was agreed to and a Committee com. sisting of Messsrs Clayton, Gunning and Roach were appointed to draw up rules. ’The following new members were elected:—Messrs Thwaites, BlackwoQd. Blaikie, Richardson and Mason. Mr Gunning, of the Green Committee, reported that owing to the recent wet weather it was necessary that the ditch be cleaned out, as the water was not getting away. The hedges also needed cutting. ONLY TESTED BOWLS.
The question of having all howls tested was' brought forward by Mr Spencer. He said it was wise to have all bowls with the same bias and he recommended that all bowls that have not been tested be forwarded to the secretary who ' would arrange for them to be sent to Wellington to be tested. Mr Gunning’s offer to pack and forward them was accepted with thanks. Following the above matter it was decided, on tiie motion of Messrs Clayton and Roach, “That only tested bowls be used in Club championship games.” NEW PLAYERS.
Replying to a suggestion from Mr White as to the advisability of appointing a coach for new players, the President said it was most essential the Club should have one and he thought some experienced player should be appointed to take new players in hand and show them how to, hold and deliver a bowl and give general instruction. The meeting agreed with the suggestion and Messrs Gunning and E. Butt kindly offered their services which were accepted. Mr Spencer said he did not think this would altogether overcome the position, and he suggested that a controlling committee of three members be appointed to take the neyv players' in hand with power to work them into rinks with experienced players. He said if the club was going to turn out good bowlers the new players must be taken in hand. After discussing the’ best means lor improving the new’ m’embers and selecting the rinks for practice games the meeting decided on the motion of Mr Morgan, seconded by Mr Jones, “That the Selection Committee (Messrs Spencer, Clayton and E. Butt) apportion members to rinks on Wednesdays and Saturdays up to 2 D.m.” A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting 1 .
