SHANNON TEAM’S HARD LUCK. A large number oi Shannon football enthusiasts made ilie trip to Palmerston North on King’s Birthday to witness the sevon-a-side tourney owing to the laet that Shannon had teams entered in tne senior, junior, and third competitions. The seniors put up a great fighi winning three of their games and reaching the final in which they were defeated .by Old Boys A by 8 to 5. The juniors’ were, defeated in the second round., by Wellington 12 to ,3, while the thirds lost in the second round to Oriental A by 16 to nil. There were twelve teams in the senior competition, and the Shannon team played the following matches: FIRST BOUND. Shannon (8) v. Feilding (3). lltuis- | held scored a try for Shannon, and tliis was converted by Hunt, wlho also locked a penalty goal. McLean gm a try for Feilding. SECOND ROUND.' Shannon (8) v. United (3). Ransfteld' scored a try which Hunt converted, and also kicked a penalt\ goal, the scores being identical with those against Feilding. C, Rowlands scored United’s three points—-a try. SEMI FINAL. Shannon (3) v. Old Boys B (0). Marsh Hakafaia scored a fine try for Shannon just on time. FINAL. Old Boys A (8) v. Shannon (5). There js no doubt the better team won (says the Times), but the crowd's sympathies were with shannon wb . had the had luck in the draw and pJayed three games before the filial to Old Boys’ one, the latter having drawn a bye and then got a dciault from Hui Mai A;in the second round. It' will he seed, therefore, that on their one game with Oriental A Old Boys got into the final. Old Boys threw away a great chance in the first spell after Bropliy had set Palmer for a moral try bu,f the puss went over the winger’s shoulder, in the second spell a. nice bit of work, Akuira—Brophy—Palmer led to the latter scoring, Rangi kicking a goal. Shannon got a try by following up. Evans in an attempt to stave off a couple of attackers went idown with the bail. Ransfield took it from him and planted it between the posts for Hunt to kick an easy goal. Just on time Rangi kicked a lovely goal against the wind from the touch-line and Old Boys had retained their title.
