What is probably the most notable match that lias taken place on the turf in New Zealand will be screened in Shannon on Saturday, when the local public will be able to see Gloaming deieat The Hawk. The picture is exciting a lot of interest and should not be missed by any who can enjoy sport for its own sake. Another great stage play has reached the screen and, as a film, bids fair to eclipse all its previous records. This time it is the famous Henry Blossom play, “Checkers,” the racehorse drama in which Thomas W. Boss won so much fame. Under the title of “Gold Heels,” it will he shown in conjunction with the Gloaming-Hawk picture. The story is built around the experience of a rich man, awakened to the fact that he is no longer riel), plunges into a Jaw-breaking venture with a liquor smuggling concern. His associations became distasteful, but necessary to his new business. Even his wife, a high society matron, is dragged into the sordid atmosphere of illicit liquor. Their daughter, a debutante, is left to roam pretty much at will where the travelling is fast and reckless.
Naturally there’s a smash to such contorted conditions in a family, of such standing. Tiie lather is apprehended by the Federal officers and sent to prison, the daughter figures in a nasty scandal.
