THE KUROW TRAGEDY.
INQUEST OPENED. DUNEDIN, May 26. The Coroner commenced an inquiry this morning concerning the. tragedy near Kurow, involving the death of olive Jean Rutherford, and Philip Richard Hudson. • Charles John Bell, clerk, stated tie knew deceased were keeping company i On April 21 he met Hudson and went to his house. He. knew Hudson generally had a pea rifle in his car, but did not see it on this occasion. They met Miss Rutherford, and set out for Rutherford’s place at Gayersham, but changed their minds and turned back. Witness left the car in the city and went home. The deceased appeared to he on the- best of terms. Witness had no idea where, they were going. Further evidence showed that at 9.20 p.m., Hudson bought a tin of. petrol, and a gallon tQf oil. The., parties then seemed on good terms. The inquest was adjourned to Ku_ row until to-morrow evening, and further evidence will |be taken at Oamaru on Wednesday.
