SHANNON MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Will you fallow me a little space in your paper regarding - the above elections. Eight men are required as councillors and 15 men nave been nominated for the positions. In the meantime, several have stated that they have no intention of taking the platiomi. Now, sir, the position is this; To. most of tile electors (on paper) one man appears to be as goud a§ another for the position, and it is only by •hearing their views that it will be possible to pick out the men must suitable to make a good Council. Anyone failing to address the electors can hardly expect to be returned and should not be supported. Another point I would make is this: That it is not the man who makes the best speech that is going to be a good councillor, in previous elections men have made good .addresses from the platform and alter being returned, have failed to attend half the meetings of the Council. I understand there is a rule which reads that any one missing three consecutive meetings have to resign. If this is correct, I trust this rule will be more strictly enforced in the future than it has been in the past. Hoping the above remarks will be the means of seeing all intending councillors on the platform on Tuesday evening.—l am, ■ etc., A. BIRCHALL.
