Tippler) preaiding over a fairly good attendance oi members. Arising from toe minutes it was. deemed that tlie secretary be granted 2s (id out of all members’ subscriptions ior collecting same. Tlie secretary stated toat this was the iirst annual meeting of tlie branch and they hud ended toetr fast year’s work with a credit balance of £7 4s. He said good.work had been done, by stalling toe branch and he nopeu members would continue their interest l.u me work. '
A number of remits were received from tbe Manawatu Provincial Executive for consideration and toe fallowing were dealt with; — (1) That in view;' of toe tremendous amount involved, comprehensive enquiries should be made by Cabinet nefore an Order in Council is grained to the Dairy control Board as 4 is toe opinion oi this .branch that absolute qontrof is unwarranted at present,. —it was resolved to iniorni tbe Executive that .this branch iavours absolute control. (2) That reflectors should be made a compulsory part of a motor lorry’s equipment.—Agreed to. 1 (3) That , when disposing of a motor car the license should be retained by the owner if desired. —Agreed to. (4) That the tyre tax be increased i’i necessary in preference to toe- fiat rate tax On motor cars as now in force.—The meeting recommended that instead °f a flat rate the Government increase the tyre tax. to raise the same amount of revenue as would be collected by a flat rate. (5) That tlie attention oi local bodies be drawn to the number of dogs running Vbout without .registered collars on, and requested to have the Act more rigidly enforced in respect to this particular matter.—Agreed to. (6) That toe respective auctioneers associations be requested to erect a cow bail in all public saieyards, such being considered a necessity for handling stock when required.—Agreed to. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
-Tlie following 'officers were elected for tiie ensuing year;—President, Mr li. L. Tippler (re-elected); vice-presi-dents, Messrs L. H. Best and R. C. Collins; secretary, Mr W. P-illips; trustees, president and secretary; auditor, Mr Waring Taylor; committee, Messrs Hi. M. Richards, R. C. Collins, G. Mitchell,.. J. Bowler,'J. Duschenski, G. Caldwell, C. Stevens and tbe chairman and secretary. A heartji vote of thanks was accorded the president (Mr R. L. Tippler) and the secretary (Mr D. Reid) for toe work in connection with the branch carried out hjr them during the year. In returning thanks Mr Tippler said he would like to see members take a more active interest in the work of the Union and he hoped that during toe year they would endeavour to increase the membership. At present toe local Union had 3D financial members.
The chairman and secretary were appointed delegates to toe Manawatu Executive meetings, also to represent the branch at the interprovincial conference to bo held at Masterton on May 19th. The sum of £3 3s was granted towards toe delegates’ expenses at toe interprovincial conference. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
