Dairy Produce Control Board tins week the following matters were considered: — • Butter Boxes and Cheese Crates,—in view ol the information supplied in the delegation’s report, the Board decided to urge upon the Dairy Companies the necessity for using butter boxes with not less than five-eighths of an inch ends.. This not to apply where boxes are wired or strapped.. Clieese crates centres should not he les.s Ilian one inch in- thickness and should allow for sufficient circulation of air between the end of the cheese and the end of the crate. Preservative.—The Board considered the question oi preservatives, in the light of the recommendation of the Commission which recently considered the question in London. It was decided to have tests made as to the necessity lor the use cd preservative, but in the meantime to ask the New Zealand Government to protest through the High Commissioner against the prohibition of its use. The Minister of Health in England has given an undertaking that before regulations are gazetted there he will refer such regulations to the importers.

Rimless Cheese. —Tlie Board adopted the recommendation “of the delegation that every effort should be made to eliminate the rim from all the cheese exported from New Zealand. The delegation was of the opinion that the first cost in the way of the necessary hoops would be amply repaid in a short time.

Wembley Exhibition.—The Dairy exhibit is being continued and arrangements have already been made to renew the exhibit of large cheese. Re-, ports were unanimous that not only were the large cheese a great attraction, hut the quality was excellent. National Brand and Superfine Grade.—Those matters have been submitted to sub-committees of the Board for consideration. Compulsory Grearn Grading—The Board has again urged upon the Government the necessity for compulsory cream grading. Laboratory.—-The Government, is lieing pressed to move in this, matter, and also, to establish a . properly equipped dairy school in conjunction with the Laboratory.
