SHANNON v. LEVIN B.

The Shannon and Levin B cricket match, played at Levin on Saturday, proved to be both interesting and ex- | citing and was. n’qt won until close on 16 o’clock. It was anybody’s gaflie un- * til then.

I Levin B, in their first innings hat- ! ted very well indeed and most of the younger players deserve every credit for the showing they made. Most of them can show some of the oldei 'players of both teams how to bold a hat. Pettit, Dempsey, Griffin and Dufresne shaped best, and assisted to bring their score to 58.

Shannon’s first innings was a procession, due to Hudson finding a particular spot on the pitch that , made the ball unplayable, and Phillips, another colt, sending down some good balls which®made the batsmen very careful. Shannon’s innings l closed for 50, eight runs behind, Hudson getting 6 for 23 and Phillips 4 for 15.

At this stage tlie game looked all over, with Levin the. winners. Shannon, finding themselves likely to be beaten, set. to work and at about 4.30 sent Levin B again lo the. wickets and went through the side in no time for' 25 runs. Keen fielding and* good bowling was responsible- for Levin’s failure. It only took ll£ overs to get through the 12 batsmen,- Burrows getting 4 lor 12 and- Hunt 6 for 12.. Shannon started their second fillings with less than half an hour to make the required runs, Hemingsen and Bentley went at the bowling like champions and gave the boys some leather hunting. ' Hemmingsen batten soundly for 65 not out and Bentley knocked up 54 before he. was caugm off - Griff en. Shannon ’tnus won after u great go by 7 wickets for 98 runs.
