SHANNON AMATEUR ATHLETIC & CYCLING CLUB.

I ANNUAL MEETING TO-MORROW NIGHT. The first annual meeting of mem- - bei's of the Amateur Athletic I and Cycling Club wiU be held in the ; Cqujicil Chambers to-morrow evening ■to receive the report and balance sheet for the past season and to elect officers for the ensuing year. •PRESIDENT'S REPORT.

I The following is the president's (Mr J. T. Bovis) report, which will be presented to the meeting. The president congratulates the members in sustaining the progress of the Cljab, if not I adding to its prosperity. The report states the membershep 'stands at 345 1 financial members which speaks well for a Club in its first year of operation. The Club held two very successful gatherings during the past year, and as will be seen toy the balance sheet, has a credit balance of £l6 6s Bd. Tile annual ball was not a fin_ •ancial success, owing to counter attraction* and resulted in a ,loss of £l2 which considerably .reduced the Club's credit. "We all feel pleased at the advance athletic sports have taken in this district. The- sport has grown greatly in popularity during the past few years, boffli with the public and i with those concerned in its active participation so. those in authority cany ! a. responsibility. We know there have j been weak poirits in the management of our sports meeting, which must be expected from a young club, but these I are steadily being rectified and strengthened. With all>oUir faults I am sure we compare favourably with other clubs on the way we carry out our meetings. A vote of thanks is due to all wfho assisted the club with trophies and money during the year. The balance sheet will show the amount of work that has fallen on the secretary's shoulders. He has given a considerable amount of his time to the work I of the Cluib and the members can con- J sider themselves fortunate in .having him a« their secretary. The work of ; (he Club ihas been carried out har- j moniqiissly niixd successfully and this I in a, great part is due to the activities of our lion, secretary (Mr G. Watkins). I wish to thank the committee and members who have worked so hard in, keeping, the Chtb solvent -and to ' whose exertions the Club owes so much of its success. If wc keep up j liho membership of last season, and I ! have - every, reason to. expect a. larger : < membership, the prospects from a tin- j ancial point of view are bright. Athletic sports have come to stay in Shannon and it is for those in authority to maintain and even increase the standard of the sport in this town.''
