TRAGEDY NEAR SUVA.

WELL KNOWN SURVEYOR SHOT. In the cable news on .Saturday last it was stated thai, Christopher Byers Sealy, Public Works Surveyor in charge of" the main trunk road eight miles from Suva, was found shot dead, and £4OO which was in his bag was missing. »His motor bicycle was uninjured. A local friend of the late Mr Sealy supplies the News with Dtie following interesting note on .his career in the Dominion: "It may not be generally known that in 1915-16 Mr Sealy was in charge of the original surveys and investigations of the Mangahao Hydro Electric Works. The crime which takes him off is a particularly dastardly one as he was one of nature's whitest men commanding the respect of all witih'whom he came in contact. After completing his work at Mangahao he carried out the surveys at Arapuni. Prior to these works he had been working for many years on railway location and construction tapping the great timber forest to the west of Lake Taupo. After completing Arapuni he returned to railway work at Tauranga. While in Tauipo his health brokn down. After a long convalescence ■he rejoined the Public Works and carried out the extensive tunnelling in the Arapuni Gorge site to test the foundations for the huge dam which is the principal feature of the scheme. Being anxious concerning his continued good health on. completion of his work at Arapuni he accepted a position as engineer to Uhe Government of Fiji. He leaves a. widow and two children of school age."
