WELCOME, THOUGH BELATED.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—We see by the papers that at a great Convocation of Christian people it has been decided that “All war is ‘ contrary to the teachings of Christ,”, a conclusion S'elf-evi'dent to every sane mind. We can only regret that this conviction, which should 'have prevented, the Creaij '{Tragedy, lias come so late, when no great courage is required to express an opinion that, while the public were (clergy.and people alike) drunk with the war-dope, would have brought hit ter persecution. But one clergyman in all New Zealand dared to break their guilty silence, .and suffer. impausonanent rather than deny his Master's teachings. But one, in Wellington, lias expressed ihis deep contrition lor his share 'of encouragement .of the spirit of hatred and revenge. We looked long, alter the war, lor the calling of a Bay of Humiliation .and Prayer for all Archbishops, priests and clergy who had helped to bring that awiul catastrophe upon us. Far more fitting would this have been than toe endeavours to fan toe embers of superstition by encouraging “faith-heal-ers” as adjuncts to the churches. : •Strangest of anomalies! Christ says: “Blessed are the peacemakers, they shall he called the children of God.” Yet Christians are to be found who hurl invectives at the “pacifist.” “A mad world, my masters,” truly, and a sad onb to those who love honesty.—l atn, etc.
