FOOTBALL FATALITY AT FEILDING.
YOUTH DIES FROM INJURIES
The Rugby season. 1924, had a tragic beginning for the Oroua Rugby Sub-Union on Saturday, when a young player, aged 17 years, Louis Phillip Allerby, of Colyton, received injuries that quickly proved fatal. The deceased lad, son of Mr Frank Allerby, settler, of Colyton, was a member of the team in the match with Cheltenham, played at the former township, /Mr J. Thurston being referee. Towards the close of the game, when the score was three points all, deceased kicked the ball and played on. and shortly afterwards was seen lying on the field unconscious. He was taken to Feilding and examined by Dr Phillips, who ordered his removal to the Palmerston North hospital, lip died shortly after arrival. He suffered very severe internal hemorrhage, resulting from a blow in the side of the chest.Theyouth’s condition was such that after examination at the hospital, no hope was entertained for his recovery.
It is understood that the injuries were received through severe contact with another player’s knee, but further details were not available Apparently there was no rough play. . , An inquest will be held to-dSy.
It will be recalled that during last season a similar accident ocucrred at Feilding, when a young man named Sargent was fatally injured. .

BADLY BROKEN COLLARBONE
In the same game, another Colyton plaVer named Cousins, received a badly broken collar-bone, and had to receive medical attention from Dr. Phillips.
