The first round of the Hoiowhenua Rugby Union’s competition fixtures for tine 1924 season, which will commence on Saturday', April 12, has been drawn, the first Saturday’s games bting as follows: SENIORS. llui Mai v. Weraroa at Manakau. - Otaki v. Rovers at Otaki. Wanderers v. Foxton at Levin. Shannon a bye. JUNIORS (Northern) TokomarO. v. Miranui, at. Tokomaru. Shannon v. Koputaroa, at Shannon. Roxton v. Awahou, at Foxton. Moutoa a bye. Southern. Hui Mai v. Rovers, at Levin. Otaki v. Paraparaumu, at Parnparauinu. Rahui v. Weraroa, at Weraroa Wandereffe a bye. »■ THIRD GRADE (Northern)., Weraroa v. Shannon, at Levin. Rovers v. Foxton, at Foxton. Koputaroa,, a bye. Southern. Otaki v. Hui Mai, at Otaki. Te Horo v. Paraparaumu, at Paraparaumu. ' FOURTH GRADE. L.D.H.S. v. Foxton, at Weraroa. Weraroa a bye. FOOTBALL. An evenly contested game was played on the Recreation Grounds on Saturday between a team from Dalzell’s mill at Makeruia and a Shannon fifteen, which resulted in a win for the former by 8 points to nil, L. Dalzell securing two tries, one of which was converted by Waka. The teams appeared to be evenly balanced, the mill team excelling in the back division while in the forwards Shannon were superior: Mr Burroughs refereed. All intending players for the_ Shannon thirds are requested to notily the selector immediately, so as to enable him to select the team for next Saturday. The selection will be made on Thursday niglht.
WERAROA 38, ROVERS 3. On Saturday afternoon Weraroa met and defeated Rovers Seniors at the Weraroa Memorial Park by 38 points to 3. , ~ This game was the Rovers Club s baptism of fire as a senior club, and they foulnd tWeir men hopelessly light to deal with the brawn of their opponents. | Towards the end, despite a plucky fight oh the part of Rovers the Weraroa forwards were making solo rims right through their pack, Rangi Broughton being particularly prominent. Weraroa Thirds met Rovers Thirds, a very evien game iresultihg in . a draw-Vj all* • , In the fourth grade, Weraroa met Levin D.H.S., the former winning by B—o. For Weraroa Broughton scored two 'tries, converting one from the 25. Levin D.H.S. was outmatched and although considerably bigger than their opponents, their lack of training! was obvious.
