SPORTING.
Mr. Alf Shearsby, the wjell-known trainer, is seriously thinking of transferring his quarters to Otaki. Otaki-trained horses had a fairly successful time at the Greymouth meeting on the third day—Probate, Bestir, and Radiac getting into places. Thp former secured a first and a second.
Mr. C. F. Vallance, who had the bad luck to lose the Wairarapa Cup owing to Little River not carrying the right weight, was surprised last week to receive a letter asking him to pay a dividend to a lady in Wellington, states a Wellington writer. Her argument was that as the owner accepted all responsibility for the error he should pay the dividend. Most likely Mr. Vallance would not se'e this matter in the same light, and he would be pardoned for thinking that he had lost enough over. the transaction already. It might be mentioned that the mistake was. in no way due to Mr. Vallance, although it is freely thought hi 3 was responsible. Happy Days and Helen Rufus, who won the big money l at the Tauherenikau meeting, have been entered for thp Foxton Cup. Waimatao and Probate will take part in the hurdle race, Moonstruck will contest the Welter, Miss Rene and Matarfcka the Anniversary Handicap, and Counter Attack, Happy Days and Probate the Herrington Welter.
