LONDON EGG MARKET.
NEW ZEALAND SHIPMENT
GOOD PRICES REALISED
The Manawatu Co-operative Utility Poultry Society has 'been • advised by the secretary of the Market Commission, Wellington, that the shipment of eggs despatched Home, recently realised a high level of prices. The consignment ■ comprised 207 cases, each containing 30 dozen eggs, and the prices for different lots offered ranged from 21s 6d to 23s per long hundred (ten dozen). Commenting on the prices realised, a local poultry breeder informed a "Standard reporter that the figures quoted were .gross landed terms, ine eggs cost lOd per dozen to land m Fngland, which included all local charges and freights. "The prices were more than we expected," he added, "and the eggs sold at about 3d a dozen less than the English fresh egg, a fact which speaks well for the quality and grading of the shipment. The-grading was very strict but it has been fully justified by the results. This is the first time that a free shipment of eggs has been sent Home from this country. Previous shipments have comprised small lines packed in chambers with butter and cheese, but that method was not ait all successful. The excellent condition in which the first free slhipment was landed is a source of gratification, and the prices realised prove that there is a market at Home for our eggs. The net price will be in the vicinity of Is 3d per dozen to the. producer. The effect this will have m the future in stabilising the market in the Dominion will be of very great importance to the poultry industry."
