SHANNON CRICKET CLUB.
TO ENTER A TEAM IN THE COMPE - .tition.
A fairly well lattended meeting of members of tihe Shannon Cricket Club was held in. the institute on Saturday evening, Mr G. Quiarrie presiding.
The balance sheet, which was read and adopted, showed a slight deficiency owing to several members still being In arrears. Mr L. 1 Randall, who has been the club secretary lor the past 14 years, tendered his resignation owing to- his having removed to Makerua. The resignation was received .with regret. On the motion of Mr A. H. Morgan, seconded by Mr Grainger, it wa, s decided to place on record the club’s heartiest appreciation of the excellent services rendered by Mr Randall during his long term of office and at the same time wish him success.
Mr Randall, in thanking the members', .said) a, change of secretaries often did good, as a secretary was a.pt to get in a groove and very often 'his ideas did not agree with those of the younger members. He wished the club a successful future.
The Chairman said the meeting had been called for thie purpose, of reorganising the club owing to the fact that lor. various reasons several of lasjt season’s players would not be faking, an -active part. The position they had to consider was whether there was sufficient inducement to reorganise the club. The opinion ,of the meeting was that, the club should carry on and it was decided that a Shannon team be nominated for the competition. The subscription was fixed 'at 10s.
The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted as follows Patron, Mr Dinnie; president, Mr H. Greedy; vice-presidents, Messrs Murdoch, McKegg, Goodwin, Baird, Fargher, Torry, Bell,. Cherry, Mitchell, Abbott, Beard, H. Andrew, W. Quarries, Thwiaites, Rider, George'and Aim; management committee, the chairman, secretary and Messrs Johnston and Mason, with power to add. Mr Grainger was (elected secretary pro tern.
Qwing to the meeting not being clear -as to wthat the Public Works Club intend doing it was decided to hold over the appointments of delegates, selectors A captain and yice-cap-tain until Tuesday night, when another meeting will b'e held in the Parish’Hall ,at 7 p.m. -at which members of the Public Works team , and all ihterested in cricket are to fie invited to attend.
It had been suggested the, two clubs should amalgamate this season and make one strong club, but those present were strongly opposed to the suggestion and the hope .was freely expressed that both clubs would be able to put teams in the field.
