GOLF NOTES.
Tiie last week of windy weather, has wrought wonders, in drying up the local gon course, and the drying process was taken advantage of by the club’s v.ery capable, groundsman, s.o that now the greens are in splendid . condijtion. Putting, ion the sloping greens, calls for all the accuracy, judgment and cunning that may be at the command of any player,.and the. .variety of play, to be. had on the links makes, the game, particularly fascinating. It is; however, a pity, that more players do not make themselves conversant with the. local rules.. The hoof mark trouble, may be overcome by lifting the. ball out of. such depressions and dropping again without penalty. The penalty for out of bounds, is loss of distance., e.g., “Should a player strike a ball out of bounds from the tee ,he will play another. from the same place but count it his second stroke.” On Saturday next two Shannon teams, consisting of twelve men and: six ladies respectively, will play two similar teams from the Levin Club. Play will commence at 1.30 p.m. on the Shannon links. The. Shannon teams will consist of the. following:— Men.—Murphy, Morgan, Saxon, Seifert, Stewart-, Grainger, MacDonald, Anderson. Johnston, Abbott, Dinnie, Gagllardi. Emergencies: King, Parsons. Ladies.—Mrs Saxon, Mrs Johnston, Miss G. Goodwin, Miss E. Goodwin, Mrs Hosking, Mrs Dinnie, Emergencies; Mrs Stewart, Mrs Moynihan. Any of the above players who cannot take part in the game on Saturday are requested to notify the. hon. secretary as soon! as possible..
