Speaking on the question of offices at the meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board this morning, the chairman, Mr G. A. Monk, said this was a matter which required urgent attention. It had been delayed tintil arrangements regarding the appointment of a secretary were completed, buit must now be settled. He intended to see. the Borough Council a$ to whether they could make any definite 1 proposals. Speaking at Saturday’s meeting of the County Council to the motion that the County Ranger’s report be adopted, Cr. Harkness caused some, amusement by stating that there was no question that the. County had a; zealous officer in the ranger, and furthermore, one who was no respecter of persons, not even councillors stock being safe once they got on the road. “He’s got a horse of mine now,” concluded the speaker amidst laughter. A further compliment to the efficiency of the County ranger was conveyed in a letter received from a settler who wrote asking for permission to graze cows on a by-road. “A cow,” he wrote, ‘has only to look over the fence for him to be. on to it. Of course the is only doing his duty, but I think he might be asked to he a little easier in this case.” Whilst touched by the flattery so ambiguously conveyed, the Council did not see its Way clear , to grant the request. w-
