Speaking on the question of offices at the meeting of the Horowhenua Power Board this morning, the chairman, Mr G. A. Monk, said this was a matter which required urgent attention. County had a; zealous officer in the ranger, and furthermore, one who was no respecter of persons, not even councillors stock being safe once they got on the road. “He’s got a horse of mine now,” concluded the speaker amidst laughter. A further compliment to the efficiency of the County ranger was conveyed in a letter received from a settler who wrote asking for permission to graze cows on a by-road. “A cow,” he wrote, ‘has only to look over the fence for him to be. on to it. Of course the is only doing his duty, but I think he might be asked to he a little easier in this case.” Whilst touched by the flattery so ambiguously conveyed, the Council did not see its Way clear , to grant the request. w-
