UNKNOWN ELEMENTS.
. The recent disco\-ery of the element so far called hafnium has reduced the number of undiscovered elements to five. When these are discoA'ered we shall have the complete gamut of the 92 elements Avhich constitute everything material in the earth. When and IroAV will the remaining elements be discox'ered? This question was put to Sir William Bragg, who has done much towards the unravelling of the mystery of Nature’s ways. He said:
The discoAmry of the remaining elements Avill probably be made with the help of X-rays. A forecast can be made of many of the properties of th? unknown hafnium, the .disccwery of which went to prove the correctness of certain theories on which its discovery has been based.
The X-rays have so far proved the last word in isolating- different elements.
