OLD SHELL EXPLODES.

AFTER USE FOR YEARS AS A COAL HAMMER. A strange accident occurred recently in the boiler-room, of an hotel in Paris, when a 60-year-old shell exploded. The shell, which was believed to be a harmless piece of iron, had been used for many years as a coal hammer. The hancUe haAing snapped, the stoker attached to the boilerroom of the hotel, was using a pir.ee oil red-hot iron to repa’r the damage when a terrific explosion took place. The man was injured in the spine by a splinter, Avlrile fragments of the shell broke the pipes, letting out the boiilng Avater. The stoker Avas taken to hospital, wirerc his injuries w re found to be of a A'ery serious nature.
