St. PATRICK'S BALL.

| ; The grand St. Patrick’s ball in aid of the funds of the local Catholic Church was held in the Druids’ Hall on Friday evening, and proved most successful, oyer 100 couples taking the floor. The hall was tastefully decorated with streamers and fun term., which had a very pleasing effect, while the floor was in splendid order, the night being an ideal one for dancing. Tire duties of Master of Ceremonies were most capably carried out by Mr L. Randall. Mr Spencer’s orchestra, from Palmerston North, which consisted of lour instruments, provided the music, and left nothing wanting. Extras were played by Mrs Butler and Mr Jack Ulsen. The supper arrangements, in the hands of a strong ladies’ committee, under the supervision of Mesdames Butler and Randall, were excellent. Dancing was kept up .until the early hours of the morning, and a most enjoyable time was spent. Following are a few of the dresses we noticed: Mrs Murphy, kingfisher green brocaded velvet; Mrs Finlay son, norai georgette, bead trimining; Mrs Balfour, powder blue and old rose satin; Mrs Dinnie, kingfisher crepe de chiue; Mrs Gryfis, tangerine crepe de, chine; Mrs Cole, nigger brown and cream taffeta; Miss Hennessey, black; Mrs R. Houk, white satin and shadow lace; Miss F. Butler, gold tissue and dark tangerine satin; Miss L. Roach, cream satin; Miss R. Roach, white georgette; Miss L. Ryan, red georgette trimmed, black beaas; Miss K. McKegg, black net; Miss White, shell pmk satin and silver roses; Miss Gooch, nigger brown tafletta; Miss Curran, emerald georgette; Miss Ross, white net; Miss Upton, black velvet; Miss : Cole, green shot brocade; Miss Judd, black georgette; Miss Greedy, saxe crepe de chine; Miss Stem, lemon georgette; Miss A. Brown, heliotrope georgette; Miss L. Brown, jade crepe de. chine.
