WERAROA DEFEAT Y.M.C.A.
SATURDAY’S CRICKET. It seems as if, in the arrangement of the general scheme of things, Y.M.C.A. was not fated to defeat Weraroa in the 1922-23 cricket season. On Saturday, Weraroa, weakened by the absence Of O’Connor, Pringle and McGill, after losing five wickets Tor 26, compiled a score of 80, due to the efforts of Hughes, Hall and Hudson. Hughes has batted very consistently for his club this season, and Hall played one of his best innings to date. Y.M.C.A. started well* the Ilrst wicket falling at 25, and the third at 42. They seemed to have the game in hand, but the remaining batsmen’ found the compiling of the necessary runs a task too difficult of accomplishment, Martin’s exhibition was the best displayed by this oatsman for some time. He played steadier, and there was an absfence uf /-hose uppish shots so fatal to sound*, featting. The bowling on, either side called for little comment The fielding of Conder was a notable feature of the game, and he finished the match by taking a good catch from Harris. Scores were, as follows:
