OHAU BRIDGE.

REPAIRS BEING PUSHED ON. The work of re-decking the Ohau bridge has been in hand two days, and good progress has been' made, and if the work .•continues'at the same rate it will "be completed well inside the time estimated. Up .'till this morning about ,one-third of the deckingvhad been finished.

'The closing of the bridge between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. is, of course, interfering with traific. Suppliers to the Kuku dairy factory living on the north side of the Oiiau now find it necessary to commence'work as 4 a.m. in order 'tu cross and get back to the north side before 8 a.m. In not a few cases the time is cut pretty short, and. the faithful old springcarter is forced to show its. best pace to finish inside the "time limit." As a result it would not be a bit surprising to find one or two aspiring trotters nominated, at some of the future trotting meetings.

The regular road traffic passing to the north and south is having a different experience. The bridge being closed all day compels lorries and cars to pull up and wail till after 8 o'clock in the evening. This, as can. lie understood, is not relished, by drivers and owners. < Yesterday quite a string of vehicles was to be seen on both sides of the bridge. Some of the more adventurous car-owners tried the ford, with varying success. Several got through, but at least two were stuck up in the river, and a horse had to be pressed into service to haul the cars to safe ground.
