DESTRUCTION OF NOTICES.
COUNCIL OFFERS REWARD FOR CONVICTION.
The Wellington Automobile Association wrote in reply to the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday regarding Waitohu bridge. It was suggested that the Council place a notice board some distance from the bridge pointing out that the bridge was not open for traffic.. The reason was that several members had complained that, not seeing a notice, accidents had nearly resulted in approaching the bridge. (The letter was written before the opening of the bridge l .) The Chairman (Cr. Monk) said notices did not reign very long. They were put up one day and torn down the next. The Council had therefore not persevered with them. Cr. Ryder said the Association should be informed of that.
Cr. Ilarkness inquired if more durable notices could not be put up. The Chairman: They will be knocked down just the same. They took board and all last time.
Cr. McLeavey: Why not offer a reward i'or information leading to a conviction
The Chairman: We hope to catch them.
Cr McLeavey: Well, offer a reward. That will show we mean susiness. Cr. McLeavey moved, Cr, Ryder seconded, and it was carried: “That.a reward of £lO be offered for the conviction of any person removing any notices posted on bridges or elsewhere by the Council.”
