TROTTING AT AWAPUNI ON WEDNESDAY. The ivlanawatu Trotting Club has received remarkably good acceptances for its annual meeting, and there should be some very interesting racing at Awapuni on Wednesday. The Manawatu Cup will be the &tar item on the card, and with 12 of better average quality than the nine that started last year still left in, there ought to be a good contest. The minor events have filled "much better than last year, and given fine weather the club should have a Very successful meeting. Among the best performed horses standing their ground in the Manawatu Cup, are: Harry Audubon, Nelson Derby, Dolly Dillon, Pitaroa and Tara ire.
There is no doubt trotting is a very interesting pastime, and as the light harness sport is becoming more popular every day in Palmerston North, it would 'not be surprising to see the club have a record meeting on Wednesday. FOXTOiN CLUB’S SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY.
The Foxton Racing Club’s diamond jubilee meeting o-n January 20 and 22 is getting near at hand, and promises to be a bigger attraction this year than ever. Foxton has one of those courses that have a natural grandstand, with a pretty background of trees, and retains a pleasing feature in that patrons make the outing a picnic as well as a sporting fixture, and the whole combines to make the meeting specially enjoyable. The course is excellently appointed, and the services of the Palmerston North Municipal Band have been retained to supply the musical programme. With the inclusion of the Diamond Jubilee Cup, the racing should be good, and there appears nothing to mar the success of this ever.-popular gathering.
The Westland Racing Club’s recent meeting resulted in a deficit of some £225. Government taxation amounted to £1604, The Wairarapn Racing Club paid £6063 13/ by way of taxation to the Government in connection with the recent race meeting. A three-year-old has not been successful in the Wellington Cup since 1005, when Nightfall scored. The division named is well represented in the forthcoming race by Rapine, Gold Light and Many Kittle. All Cerise did not run up to expectations at Marton, and she will not race again. Insurrection, Winning Hit, Palestrina, Muraalii and Angelo are Auckland’s favourite selections for the Wellington Cup. Track work is proceeding actively at Trentham, but the tracks are said to he hard, and a few days’ rain would be welcome.
Since Income’s quality on the track has been well established, pedigreehunters are looking up his lineage, and believe that Poinmery, his dam, is by Johnny Faa from an Ascot mare.
