OFFICIAL LABOUR SAYS; "YES.” The evidence obtainable from countries which have sampled prohibition sayß that in every case this drastic legislation has been responsible for an unprecedented increase in taxation. For instance; the American Fedora-, tion of Labour (representing fo\ir and a-half million workers) in a manifesto issued in February, 1922, declared that the Prohibition Act was responsible for an "increase in taxes to City, State, and National Governments, amounting to approximately one thousand million l dollars per year.” The creation of a similar state of affairs in this country, which is already i&xed to the veTy limit, would, cause an unbearable burden to the working pop: ulation.
