BOWLING.

- Local competitions will be started on Saturday next. It has been decided to play championship singles and pairs, and quite a number have already entered for these events. . Entries close with the secretary on Wednesday. Competitors are guaranteed two games, after which the games will proceed on the “sudden death” principle. The Hansell Feathers for pairs have been allocated for Saturday play, and the Dixon Pins, also for pairs, for Wednesday members. Mr J. B. Shankland has kindly donated a pair of silver “buttons” for competition, and the club has decided that these be held by the winners of the chaimpion pairs each year. Messrs. McKegg and Murphy, being the winners of this event last season, are the first holders of these “buttons.”

The first round of the Triangular Shield will be played at Foxton on Wednesday, 22nd inst. Shannon "inks are: Shannon, Clayton, E. Spencer and Fargher (skip); H. Butt, E. Butt, Murray, McKegg.
