SHANNON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber on Tuesday evening when there were present his Worship the Mayor (in the chair), Crs. Spencer, Butt, Gardener, Hook, Hyde, Murray, Fargher and Richardson. CORRSEPNODENCE. From the Shannon Cricket Club drawing the; Council’s attention to question of keeping down the grass on the recreation reserve. In the past it had been the custom of the Council to pay for the cutting of same with a machine. However, this does not altogether meet the difficulty, as the grass is not long enough for the next month or so for the use of a machine, and the club are of the opinion that stocking the; reserve is the only way of keeping the grass down for the next few weeks.—'The Mayor moved that the secretary be instructed that the reserve is let to Mr Bovis to graze stock, and is at present well stocked up. From Mr Edward Newman, M.P., acknowledging receipt of letter advising that the Council proposes putting in a water supply to cost about £9OOO. He stated he would have much pleasure in making inquiries as to what course the Council would follow and whether likely to be able to get the money from one of the Government Departments.

Department of Health, forwarding additions to regulations under the Plumbers’ Registration Act, 1912, which points out that, under the controlled by the Council, no sanitary plumbing shall be done by any person other than a registered plumber. - From E. H. Crabb, forwarding copy of report made by the Masterton Borough Engineer on the question of the use of earthenware or concrete pipes for drainage system.—Received.

GENERAL. Cr. Murray drew' attention to the entrance to the Parish Hall, and said the Council should do something to the water-table which had been ploughed up so close as to make the entrance too narrow, and suggested extending the culvert at each end. Cr. Butt also drew attention to the culvert. in front of his place.

The Mayor moved that the Road Committee attend to the matter of extending- the culverts, at the Parish Hall, and Mr Butt's in Stansell. Street. The Mayor moved a resolution, seconded by Cr. Hyde, “That all orders for goods be put through the Town 'Clerk, and be ordered by her, and that she keep a copy of all orders in duplicate.”

Re garbage.—Crs Hyde and Murray reported they had interviewed the

local carriers re removal of garbage, but. up to the present they had been unable to come to any definite arrangement. Accounts totalling £39 were passed for payment.
