WATER FOR SHANNON.

SCHEME TO BE SUBMITTED TO RATEPAYERS.

COST NEARLY £II,OOO,

Alter long consideration, the Shannon Borough Council has now arrived at the position of being able to submit its water proposals to the ratepayers. A special meeting of the Council was held on the 15th, when it was decided to ask Mr Edwards, the Engineer, if he could reduce his estimate of the cost of the scheme. At Tuesday evening’s meeting he submitted a report in which he stated that, after careful consideration, he had decided to shorten the Bin main service by 11 chains and reduce the size of the service main from the reservoir to the intake from an Bin to a 6in pipe.. With this reduction, including a reduction of £SOO in the contingent amount on the cost of the service main, and in doing away with the filter, reducing the size of the reservoir to 157,000 gallons, and including a reduction on several in'nor items, the cost for this section of work was now placed at *£6104 18/ instead of his original estimate of £Bl7l 11/, thus reducing the total cost of the scheme from £12,953 14/3 to £10,977 1/3.

The Council, then went into committee to discuss the matter, as the outcome of which Cr. Hyde proposed, end Cr. Gardner seconded, “That the scheme be adopted for submission to the ratepayers as revised by the Engineer, and that - a detailed completer sued beat ion and plan be prepared by the Engineer.” This was carried.
