BOROUGH HOUSES.
WHEN WILL THEY BE OPEN FOR APPLICATION P
A good deal of curiosity* has been expressed by intending applicants and the general public as to when applications would be called for the houses the Borough Council has in course of erection. The) matter was ventilated at Tuesday night’s meeting of the Borough Council. Cr. Murray wanted to know when applications were going to be called for the houses. The Mayor, speaking with some heat, said they would be called when the conditions of purchase were completed.
Cr. Hyde said the first two houses would be ready in about six weeks, and nothing had been done in regard to applications. He said the committee had been a month on the job, and had nothing done.
The Mayor apparently resented councillors’ persistence, and, still spaking heatedly, said particulars lor conditions had been received from Wellington and us soon ?.s they were drawn up would be forwarded to the solicitor for approval. Cr. Hyde remarked that he was pleased to hear something was being done.
Cr. Murray wanted io know if they
intended waiting until the houses were completed before calling applications. •
The Mayor stated ttiey would be called for as soon as the conditions were completed.
Cr. Spencer suggested not calling applications until the houses are completed.
The Mayor said they could rest assured the conditions would be ready long before the; bouses were finished. The matter was then allowed to drop, Crs. Murray and Hyde stating
they considered that, when asking the Mayor a question, they xvere entitled to a civil reply.
