FOOTBALL.
SHANNON CLUB MEETS
The Mayor presided at a meeting of the Shannon Football Club on Friday evening. There were a large number present.
The Mayor was elected president, and Mr W. W. Mo-ynihan patron. The following were elected vicepresidents: Messrs. H. Hook, W. McKegg, G. Parkhouse, T. Wells, J. A. Wilkinson,, A. Burr, S. Mitchell, J. Fargher, W. J. Jolly, Voysey, Coakley, M. Moynihan, Thwaites, C. Hardy, J. King, W. H. Gunning, Dr. Evans, Siefert, T. Jamieson, King Meagher, Greedy, Best, Dinnie, R. Buckman, Miller, J. Crowther, Roach, S. Steer, Anderson, J. Dalzell, Beard, H. McMillan, Chong Pok, Harnett, Jhing Lee, Con. McGregor, Cockrane, E. Spencer, G. Hood, 1. Gelhor, E. Butt, E. Osbourne, J. Kilminster, N. Gill, A. E. Hyde, J. Nash, J. Bovis, Finlayson, C. C. Franks, Johnston, Goodwin, sen., J. Waiterson, J. Moffett, Scott, S. W. Carter, Spiers, G. Patton, J. Curran, G. The committee for the year were appointed as follows: Messrs. Grimstone, Burchall, Hardie, C. O’Regan and Burr.
Mr Burr was appointed secretary
A hearty vote of thanks for the able services of the past secretary, Mr Gustofson, was carried by acclamation.
M. T. Moynihan was elected treasurer.
Delegates for the Union were appointed as follows: Messrs. Hardy, W. Moynihan and Grimstone. It was decided that the captain of the team be the selector for the seniors, and that Mr W. Grimstone be selector and organiser for the third grade team.
The matter of having the name ol the Shannon Club suitably inscribed on the Thompson Payne Cup was left in the hands of the secretary. The subscriptions for the year were fixed at the same as last year, 5/ per member. It was also carried that it be a recommendation to the Horowhenua Rugby Union that all players should become compulsory members of the insurance scheme. The matter of procuring footballs was left in the hands of the secretary.
At the conclusion of the meeting the 'Mayor was a'ccorded a vote of thanks for. presiding. JUNIORS KICK OFF.
The Tokomaru Junior, team played the Shannon Juniors on the local grounds on Saturday last. The game was a very even one, and resulted in a win for Shannon by five points to three. Eagle scored for Shannon, and added the extra two points. Parrcrossed the line for Tokomaru, but failed to convert.
