THE SCHOOL PICNIC.

PLEASANT DAY AT PLIMMERTON

On Saturday last Shannonites, with lew exceptions, had a day at me seaside, the town having a very deserted village aspect during their absence. The school children had been' looking forward to the outing for some time, and hears before the train was due to leave they were to be seen waiting at the station. Tokomam had, as usual, joined in with 1 the local school, and when the long train steamed out of Shannon it had on board slightly oTer 1200 people, there being 150 of the number under five years of age. The weather at Piiminerton was perfect, and happy hours were spent in paddling and swimming, launch trips and lollie scrambles for the little ones. On the arrival of the train at Shannon in the evening, all were tired and more or less sunburnt, but happy in ihe thought of a day well spent. The Railway Department did not require a guarantee for the train service, being quite satisfied with last year's returns, and takirig that as a gauge they were not disappointed, for their receipts were close on £l5O. Ihe School Committee received' £6 6/ in donations, £l6 16/6 from the picture benefit, and £3l 8/9 by subscriptions., Everything in connection with the picnic went without a hitch, and the committee are to be complimented on the success of the outing.
