HOROWHENUA PATRIOTIC MATTERS.

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the executive of the Horowhenua County Patriotic Association was held on Thursday evening, when there were present: Messrs P. W. Goldsmith (chair), G. P. Catley, F. Plaster, C. S. Keedwell and Mrs T. F. Gibson. The Auckland War Relief Association wrote acknowledging a. cheque of £25 from the Horowhenua Association as a grant for an ex-Horo-whenua soldier now in business m the north. The soldier found that liis business was now going back, and bad returned the cheque to- the War Relief Association, as he considered it useless to put any further money into the business. The Association, however, stated that the soldier was in need of assistance and inquired if the cheque could be used to assist him outside his business afairs. It was decided to advance £5. A soldier from this district wrote slating he was in hospital in the Main Trunk district, and asked if the Association could assist his wife and two children. A grant of £2 per week was made. It was decided to grant a disabled soldier £6 17/6 to pay his board account. An application was received from a district soldier for a grant of £ls to pay bis wife’s medical expenses. —Held over for inquiry. A payment of £2O, interest on a loan, was received from a soldier settler.
