AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
MEETING AT PALMERSTON ON WEDNESDAY.
A meeting- of the Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held in Palmerston North on Friday to complete arrangements for the athletic, gathering to be held there on Wednesday next, December 14. Mr H. L. Young presided.
A letter was read stating that a team from the Wairarapa would be over to compete at the sports, also that Messrs. E. G. Sutherland, F. Nesdale and W. Candy would be coming up after the championships in Christclnjrch. It was also stated, in another letter, that the Auckland championship team would be topping for the meeting on Wednesday. A team would also be present from Hawera. This team would include several very well known athletes." The chairman stated that arrangements for the meeting on Wednesday were well in hand, and a good, *ay’s sport could be expected. As regards entries, there were to be 24 competitors in each distance in the bicycle events. There were 24 entries for Tie 100 yards flat race, 22 for the 210 yards flat, 20 for the 44 1 yards flat, and 16 for the 880 yards flat. Teams from Hawera, Wairarapa, Manawatu and other places were .going to compete in the 880 yards inter-club relay race.
