MAORILAND THEATRE.
Two splendid programmes are due at the Maoriland Theatre on Wednesday and Friday. To-morrow night Margarita Fischer will be the star in “ftiollie of the Follies,” with sterling supports. 'On Friday an impressive superfeature, • ‘‘The Great Redeemer, ‘ which has created a sensation wherever screened, will be shown. The cast is headed by House Peters and Marjorie Daw. It opens with a stirring hold-up scene, and goes on through a series of thrilling incidents to a brilliant climax. In one of these Mr Peters was required to leap a horse across a gap between two mighty crags, a chasm falling sheer down 1000 feet. To make the leap, House Peters’ horse had to jump a distance pf eighteen feet going at full speed. It was fortunate for Mr Peters that he could trust his favourite mount ‘‘Dauntless,” a western cow pony, which the screen star had ridden for more than two'years, so that master and fiorse know each others’ whims and capabilities. When it came time to ‘‘shoot” the scene, Mr Peters started for the chasm at a full gallop. “Dauntless” made it at the first attempt, hut his hind hoofs struck the edges of the rock on the far side, sending splinters of granite rattling into the abyss. The pony also staggered a bit after reaching the other side, but pulled up in good condition, “I knew Dauntless wouldn’t fail me,” said Mr Peters after the explait., “bt it was a close call. Too close for comfort, I’ll say, and the next picture I do iirdn’t have any such stunts in it, There’s; such a thing as carrying the pitcher to the well too often.” “The Great Redeemer” is from the pen of H. }H. Van Loan, who wrote ‘The Virgin of Stamboul,” and a great number of other big screen successes.
