Mr Torn Bullock, an old man, of Doffcocker, near Bolton, although blind from childhood, has the reputation of being one of the most expert gardeners in the north. He acts frequently as a judge at flower and vegetable shows. He comes of a family of gardening experts, and admits that he owes his particular gift to his marvellous sense of touch. He says that he could hardly know more about his flowers if he could see them. Naturally he cannot do everything himself, but he does the bulk of his work. His garden and allotments are real pictures, and as he displays his flowers to the visitor he can point at once to any particular specimen about.

At Christ Church on Wednesday evening a feeling of gladness prevailed amongst the large congregation gathered there for the celebration of a wedding, although to some it possibly would have been tinged with sadness had they known that the occasion had brought others to the locality who were more interested in another matter and not the nuptial event. These were a policeman and the borough traffic inspector, who found the big fleet of motor cars in the locality a happy hunting ground. Cars with lights were duly passed by' as complying with the borough bylaws, but those without lights—well, there were quite a lot, and as their numbers were noted the owners will doubtless receive an official communication in due course as, a souvenir of the occasion.— Wanganui Chronicle.
