IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION. The manag'er of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand informed the Horowhenua County Council at Saturday’s meeting that the increased rate of interest on the Council’s overdraft would come into operation cn August 1. instead of June 2, as stated previously. 1 This led the chairman (Cr. Monk) to remark that the Council’s overdraft was not very big at present, being only £1766. Cr. Broadbelt: What has happened? Were the ratepayers paying up promptly as in Wellington?

The chairman stated that the money that had come in during the month was not all rates, and included a subsidy of £2439 4s Gd, also a refund from the Government on the soldiers’ road at Otarua. The finances were in a more satisfactory condition than a month ago.
