HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.

THE CUP FINAL. A meeting of the Horowhenua Hockey Association was held on Tuesday evening, when there were present: Messrs. W. Crystall (president), Whitehouse and Williams (Excelsior), Hopa and O’Connor (Weraroa), Bevan and Sinclair (Shannon), L. McDonald (vicepresident), and Kerslake (secretary). A letter was received from the N.Z. Hockey Association stating there was no prospect of a match for the Norden Shield unless some other Association took the trophy from Feilding; also asking for nominations for. the North Island rep. team. On the motion of Messrs McDonald and Bevan, Mr Patrick was appointed to submit names and act as selector of a rep. team if necessary.

The Weraroa Club asked that the final match of the season between them and Excelsior, on which the championship depended, be postponed from July 20 to August 3, on the ground that five of their players were in the Rugby representative team se-

lected to play on July 20 and 27. Excelsior opposed, the application on the ground that the interval was too long, and that football players should be prepared to make some sacrifice, seeing that the championship depended on the match. Mr Williams moved that the game be played within four weeks from July 20, on a date to be fixed by the two captains, arid if not played by then another meeting of the Association be called. He said Excelsior had no desire to play Weraroa at a disadvantage, but did not want to be

caught when they had a weak team. They also thought the footballers should give way sometimes. Mr O’Connor moved an amendment, omitting the last part, of the motion, i This was seconded by Mr Bevan, and carried. The result is that the match must be played on August 3 or 10. On Mr McDonald’s motion, it was decided that outside referees be chosen for the match, and the secretary was instructed to communicate with Messrs. Nicolson (Otaki), Murphy (Shannon) and Noble (Otaki) to I see if they would act.
