SHANNON’S MANNERS.
To the Editor.) Sir,—ln your issue of July 1, there appears a letter signed “Common Sense,” to which it is my duty to reply. To me it seems by the tone-, of his letter he has, to use the common term, “never been beyond a hundred yards from his own back-door” , since he does not know that at the nearest town by, road, FoXton, a queqe is formed at the Town Hall Pictures every night, and there the young people have manners, and not bad manners like in Shannon. I am also sure that a gentleman with the high mental calibre qf “Common Sense” would, before he writes, be in a position to make truthful statements, and not distort the truth as he does. Probably “Common Sense” is one of those people who go to the pictures every night and consider they have an extensive knowledge of the world by what they see on the screen. Without of contradiction, I can, say that, as for travelling, I can give “Common Sense” 20,000 miles and then beat him, or that, at least, I have £one further by rail than he has gone'. In conclusion, I should advise. “Common Sense” to use some of his namesake, and not show himself to be devoid of it all together. I am, etc. , . FORM A QUEUE(To the Editor.) Sir, —In reply to the letter in Friday’s edition on “Forming a Queue,” I would like to say that I quite agree with the remarks made by the other correspondent in a previous issue. I also think “Common Sense” would do better to sign himself “Want of Sense.” His sarcastic remarks are quite uncalled for, and would be better if kept to himself.. More than once I myself have ‘waited at the Maoriland Pictures with a baby in my arms and been pushed out of-the way by a crowd of Tough boys who have no manners at all.* If “Common Sense” has travelled so much, I should rather think he could see the advantage of forming a queue.—l am, etc., ONE WHO HAS TRAVELLED.
