MANGAHAO NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A large and well-stocked canteen has been opened at Arapeti. This is a distinct boon to the workers and the Public Works Department deserves every praise for this thoughtful and much needed service. Mr Finlayson, who is in charge, had long experience in similar work during the war. The weather during the past, week has been very good—heavy frosts in the morning, but towards noon the weather is splendid. During the past few days many men have called at the various camps seeking employment. Mr G. P. Campbell, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., would be pleased to receive magazines and papers suitable for the recreation hut. All the cookhouses a.t the Mangahao works are now under the mjanagement of the canteen officer. This system is proving a, great success.
