THE DAYS OF YORE.

To the Editor.) Sir,—lt has given me much pleasure to read, the exceedingly well-written articles on Early Days; for as a mere lad I ran under and swung from the big willows the Manawatu River and the old flour mill, which, by, the way, was not mentioned by your well-informed contributor. For many reasons I should like to know who owns that mill site to-day, and if it is true that the natives used to grind home-grown wheat by the water-power now running to waste on the Moutoa-Foxton read. I cannot close this letter without mentioning how delightfully the birds sang before the bush was cut down in this district, or even the jetty was finished ton the river to receive the gear necessary for the completion of the Manawatu;, railway line. Thanking you for making room for my questions.—l am, etc. 1881.
