Harold Maitland, released last week on probation by the Chief Justice, after conviction of stealing £3O. was discovered early this morning robbing the till in the Empire Hotel. He bad left his boots on the pavement and entered by a window. A night watchman, seeing the boots, got into the house and arrested him.
Waterspouts
PATBA, Maech 2,
Three waterspouts were seen in the offing about a quarter to eight this morning. One struck the land near the south end of the town and took a northerly course doing considerable damage, It unroofed three houses and several sheds. The debris of one house was carried a quarter of a mile before falling

The properties of the Colonial Investment Company are being sold to-day. Though the sale is half over only one lot has been sold 230 acres at Waitahuna, realising £495. LID.
